Want to have 90% broadband uptime and at least 500kbps connection speed to US servers for 90% of the time in your Malaysia home? Below is my suggestions.

• Subscribe to a 1Mbps broadband plan from a wired broadband provider in your area. Main advantage of wired broadband providers is their broadband services are less affected by weather and location of your home relative to ISP equipments.
• Subscribe to a basic wireless(3G or WiMAX) broadband plan. Wireless broadband is a backup for wired broadband.
• Get a proxy server in Singapore. The purpose of Singapore proxy server is for international traffic.

According to The Straits Times, by 2010, residential broadband services in Singapore are likely to be cheaper and at higher speed, e.g. 100Mbps.

Reasons Internet speed is slow
A(Your PC) - Too many applications in your PC use Internet and/or at least one application is malicious, e.g. virus, worm, etc.
B(Your ISP equipments) - Network congestion and/or over-utilization in your ISP
C(Your ISP international gateway) - Network congestion and/or over-utilization in your ISP international gateway
D(Internet) - Network congestion and/or over-utilization
E(Website host international gateway) - Network congestion and/or over-utilization in website host international gateway
F(Website host/server) - host is overloaded

1 - Network congestion and/or over-utilization between your PC and your ISP
2 - Network congestion and/or overiutilization between your ISP and your ISP international gateway
3 - Network congestion and/or over-utilization between your ISP international gateway and a cable operator
4 - Network congestion and/or over-utilization between website host international gateway and a cable operator
5 - Network congestion and/or over-utilization between website host and website host international gateway

For broadband users in developing countries, besides Internet over-utilization at user PCs(comparing to subscribed rate and/or real capacity of ISPs) and overloading at website hosts, usual issue is network over-utilization and/or under capacity at (2) and (3).
