Connecting to Overseas VPN
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011If you are corporate user having difficulties in connecting to VPN server outside of Malaysia, e.g. US, what can you do? Below is some suggestions
- Use a business ISP that routes Internet traffic via Singapore. The cost range is between RM1000++ for TIME to more than RM 5000 per month for 10Mbps. The price difference is due to bandwidth availability/sharing, quality of after-sales support (you get what you pay).
- Put a VPN router in a Singapore data center. The Singapore VPN router will connect to original VPN server using back-to-back VPN mode. After setup of back-to-back VPN network, Malaysia users will connect to new Singapore VPN router rather than original VPN server. This is better as connection between Malaysia and Singapore is much faster and reliable. This is also the most expensive option as you need to pay for Internet access and router co-location. Main advantage of this option is access of multiple upstream providers which lead to lower network costs, better uptime and improving stability.
